Computer Lab

In computer lab, everyone discovered new and exciting careers that either fit their wanted annual salary or fit their interests. We could even look at people who did the jobs that we already knew of and want, or maybe wanted now, to do. The best part was, however, the jobs I love and want were able to fit my supposed annual salary and interests. I learned that there are way more jobs than what I originally thought, all with varying duties and salaries, even if they don't necessarily fit my interests. :)

Science Lab

In Science Lab the class either saved bears, or, well, killed them by pollution. We learned that the more pollution there is, the more bears and other animals that are susceptible die because of it. Everyone started with ten healthy bears and two pollutants. Every five generations, we would start over and add one more pollutant. A lot of the bears died when the number of pollutants increased to four. This taught me that pollution has a bigger impact on the environment than I originally had thought.

UCLA

I can't wait to visit the college I really want to go to in the future, UCLA!! I always knew UCLA for the film programs, when I was little, before I could really understand college, I thought that was all it was. As I have learned more about college over the years (and UCLA now), I know there are a lot more possibilities and options anyone can choose, like many different majors and classes. The one thing I want to see, however, is the Powell Library!

Science Lab

Today, in Science Lab, the class learned about plastic and what it is found in. Practically everything is made of plastic, which is very harmful. Scientists suspect plastic is the cause of 1 out of every 35 kids getting autism. When scientists did a study about canned foods, they used people with the same blood type. The group who ate canned soup, which is lined with plastic, for lunch everyday instead of homemade, like the other group, had 1000% more plastic in their bloodstream. It made me think twice about certain items in my home made of plastic. Things like soap, toothpaste tubes, flooring, paint, bed sheets, clothes, etc. Sometime soon, all the cups in my house will be made of glass, just in case the plastic bites back.

Computer Lab

In computer lab, the class reviewed even more on Bitesize. This time, however, the subjects didn't include Math, but Science and English. We played a variation of all of them, some people played all Science, some all English, and some a mixture of the two. First, I reviewed Deduction and Poetry with interesting games. I didn't know there were grannies who ate children! Other subjects/games I played include: Shadows, Friction, and Sound. Apparently, sound vibrations kill off a disease! It was nice to know there is a FUN way to review for CST, I will definitely be using Bitesize more often.

Witch & Wizard, by James Patterson, is basically the lives of Whit and Wisty Allgood, a witch and wizard in training, while the horrible New Order takes over, or the N.O. for short. It took being captured in the middle of the night, put in jail, and a death sentence to finally reveal to them they had illegal powers. After they escape prison, they find a department store full of kids just like them, without powers of course. No one, besides the One Who is the One, is more powerful than the Allgood family.

Divergent, by Veronica Roth, is yet another dystopian novel about society being divided into factions, which are focused on different values, bravery and selflessness being the main factions. After growing up in Abnegation all her life, Beatrice is tired of the "selfless" life. When she is 16, she gets to choose if she stays in her own faction. Her aptitude test reveals she is Divergent, a dangerous title meaning she isn't cut out for just one faction, which is what she is supposed to be, but three. Will Beatrice choose Erudite, intelligence, Dauntless, bravery, or Abnegation, her home faction where her family is?

Computer Lab

Today in computer lab, we learned and reviewed some math skills that can REALLY help us on the CST's. I didn't get to finish all of them, unfortunately, but I still reviewed quite a lot. First, we helped find a special bottle and learned about 2D Shapes. Secondly, I reviewed 3D Shapes and Nets by preventing robots from taking over the world. I'm a hero! After that, I learned that angles can especially help humans beat robots for control of the world in 2100. Next, I learned that weights and measures can definitely help when you sending a package! Well, today in computer lab was a day chock full of mathematical reviews and information. That CST Test better be prepared to get aced!

Computer Lab

Today in computer lab, the class learned about different math skills by using fun activities. First, we learned about frequency diagrams by helping people with the plague, which we can use in "real" life when we make tables or tally up the amount of points a person got in that last game. Secondly, we learned about mean, median, mode, and range while helping robotic creatures. Mean, median, mode, and range help with all different kinds of things, like grades, weight, etc. Lastly, we learned about probability. Of  course, a lot of people know about probability already. Heads or tails? That common question comes to mind when talk about probability starts. A life application to this would be when someone bets on something, which I strongly discourage. If there are 10 horses, there is a 1/10 chance of betting on the right horse. Learning about these things using real life applications online was very interesting.

Science Lab

Today in science lab, the class learned about resources and how California gets its energy. There are a few obvious ones, of course, solar, wind, hydro, coal, nuclear, etc. Which is what we mainly learned about. Geothermal energy, too. Everyone filled out these charts that had the information about certain types of energy. For instance, the chart was like this: Solar      What?       Where?         Uses?        Hazards?        Other Facts?   Every energy had a hazard, whether its unpredictable or flat out radioactive. We all got a lot out of today's Science Lab. Learning how we get our energy and its hazards, uses, and what it is was very eye-opening.

Computer Lab

In computer lab today, the class learned about Autodidacticism, which is self-teaching. Mr. Jost showed us Khan Academy, which, of course, we already know about. With so many websites to choose from and explore, we learned a lot of different things. What is an aglet? Do fortune cookies really predict the future? We can use this sort of Autodidacticism in class by learning how to, well, learn! We can use these websites to learn ahead of our grade level in what interests us. Maybe even learning a bit too far ahead! Now we know how to learn by ourselves and what websites to use for it!

There are boys and girls as young as twelve prepared to kill others until one person is left in the arena. It’s all a “game” for entertainment. Katniss Everdeen was drawn from the reaping ball to compete against 23 others in the Hunger Games, an event established after the Dark Days when the thirteen, now twelve, districts rebelled to keep them reminded that the Capital is in charge. Two from each district are picked and her district partner is Peeta, a boy who saved her life five years before. Who will come out of the arena alive?
